Spring is in the air (and so is the pollen….blast)!  The strimmer will have to come out of it’s temporary retirement so we can keep the course playing nicely……speaking of which, the 18 hole “pro” course is nearly there.  We have been waiting on a couple of new baskets and, when they arrive in there next few weeks, we will have our final layout.

The new course signage is going up and really looks nice.  This will also help all you disc golfers navigate the deepest parts of Deer Park.  The new wooden tee posts for the Pro course are mostly in.  The whole course will come together for the May half-term……many thanks for your patience.

Our regular “Sunday Sling” is now back on the rota and we played today in glorious sunshine and only light winds.  Sadly, my disc golf was anything but glorious!  The course was not as mild as the weather and bit many of us on the rear.  Ever-consistent Steve “Radar” Cox came to the top of the groups with a very professional 66 (+1 over par).  Jez Willmott, an unofficial entry, being a staff member, notched up a very respectable 70, with Steve Woodgate only one shot further back on 71.  Special note must go to Tristan Turpitt who, by virtue of some serious practice, scored an excellent 74.  He could have gone lower but was very determined to venture into the woods (TWICE) on the new 7th and that cost him a few.

A great day was had by all and Steve Cox claimed the, hand-crafted, Sunday Sling trophy.  I joked with Jez that, if the value of that trophy was measured in man-hours, his 48 hrs worth of painstakingly slow hand-sanding would make it the most expensive round of beech ever presented.

We all look forward to the next comp and the official opening of the Pro course….watch this space.
